Master Gardener Program in Shawano County 2018

The Master Gardener Program in Shawano County started in 2007. Over 57 people have been trained since that time, and there are currently 18 certified Master Gardener Volunteers (MGVs) for 2019.

In 2018, Shawano County Master Gardener Volunteers reported 684 hours of community service, worth a value of over $16,416.

Educate Public on Gardening

Shawano County Master Gardener Volunteers, in partnership with the Shawano City-County Library, hosted a series of eight workshops for community members at the library on a variety of gardening topics providing over 14 hours of continuing education to more than 164 participants.

Renovate Public Garden Space

MGVs, in conjunction with the City of Shawano, renovated a shade garden at Franklin Park. Franklin Park is 3 acre jewel of a property located one block from Shawano’s Downtown.  It is currently home to the Shawano Farmers Market, has a Little Free Library, and open green space for visitors to enjoy.

Raise Money Through Plant Sale to Feed Community

Through a plant sale at the Shawano Farmer’s Market, MGVs raised money to support gardening projects in the community and to host a community dinner, feeding 120 low-income and elderly community members.
