Featured Projects

Teach a 4-H Club how to Garden

Waushara County Master Gardener Volunteers partnered with a  local 4-H groups to work together on care of public gardens while teaching about annuals, perennials and weeds.  Each week included an educational component. The youth learned about plants and gardening while helping beautify Wautoma.  They were so enthusiastic that they would remind their parents of the activity days and requested that this be an ongoing project.

Educate Public how to Garden

MGVs hosted several booths at Waushara Co. Fair,  Waushara Senior Community Fair, Redgranite Correctional Institution Employee Health Fair, and others to answer questions from the public. Over 800 people attended these events.

Teach Kids how to Start Seeds

MGVs taught over 200 students of various grades how to start seeds and care for plants.  This is an activity held at Parkside Middle School in Wautoma but open to any child throughout the entire area and sponsored by Waushara Co. Dept. Human Services for purpose of teaching safety behaviors, discovering area resources and to provide free family focused fun. Each child had opportunity to select a flower or vegetable which they planted and were given instructions both verbally and in writing for ongoing care.  Children demonstrated their ability to follow directions while also getting the opportunity for hands on learning.

Grow Vegetables for the Food Pantry

MGVS raised and harvested vegetables at Hancock Agriculture Research Station. Over 260 pounds of veggies from the site was donated to Waushara County Food Pantry.
