Asquarium

image of garden displaysGreen County MGVs, Monroe Main Street, and UWEX collaborated together on a unique summer gardening theme of “Asquarium” on the historic Monroe, WI square. Flowers grown in the shape of a starfish, and other plants created a colorful coral reef for an “under the sea” appearance. Several raised flower beds were designed as Aquariums, compete with fish & bubbles for highlights that hundreds of visitors enjoyed throughout the summer. MGVs were instrumental in the design and plant selection, while FFA & 4H members assisted with the planting.

New Glarus Schools Square Foot Gardens

On May 14th the school sponsored an education/ work day in the New Glarus School Garden. The NGGS Garden Committee, which included four MGVs and three teachers, guided classes 1st through 4th in planting seeds and seedlings in the raised beds and other growing plots in the garden area. This process was done on a rotating basis while one of the classes surrounded a MGV by a compost bin who explained the benefits and some principles of composting.
