MGVs gave a presentation for about 200 Bluff View Middle School students in Prairie du Chien. With the use of a story board, they especially focused on butterflies and how the students can encourage or help them. Each student was given a bag of items (sand, rocks, etc.) to construct a puddler. The story board was also displayed at the Crawford County Fair and at the 2015 Oktober Fest. Area MGVs were also had a half hour discussion about pollinators at a regular MG Association meeting.

Free Family Friendly Event

The Crawford County MG Association helped put on the family-friendly Oktober Fest at St. Feriole Island, Prairie di Chien, totally free to participants. MGVs provided make-and-take projects of dried flowers and weeds, a bird feeder made of peanut butter and bird seeds and raffles baskets to give away and a straw maze was created for the children. The MGVs sponsored a scarecrow contest. Scarecrows made by MGVs, community organizations and individuals were displayed throughout the Memorial Gardens. Over 3,000 people attended this year’s Oktober Fest.

Memorial Gardens Expanded

MGVs continue to expand the Memorial Gardens at St. Feriole Island, Prairie du Chien. This includes a native prairie garden (maintained by community members) and 75 new trees, including one planted by 1st grade area students to celebrate Arbor Day. New concrete sidewalks were laid on the perimeter of the garden. Eagle Trail, a new walk and bike trail, has been created at the back of the gardens, next to the slough.
