Vilas County Master Gardener Volunteers will host a Garden Tour in the Eagle River area rain or shine. Tickets can be purchased at any of the gardens. Children 17 years and younger are free.
Guests will be able to view 6 public and private flower, vegetable/herb gardens that range from native plantings to several long established wooded and lakeside beauties with perennials, annuals, berries and fruit trees. Two of the gardens will have 20 minute demonstrations; one on monarch butterflies and another on using Japanese indigo dye.
All proceeds will be donated to three projects this year. Northland Pines Middle School bee project ‘Hive Alive’. As part of eighth grade curriculum, students regularly visit the hives for observations and care of the bees throughout the year. Also the Farm to School Program at Northland Pines School District which educates students in nutrition and gardening. And the Northland Pines Community Garden which has plots for rent, a teaching garden, and a hoop house which makes donations to the Vilas Food Pantry.
Brochures with maps are available at the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce, located at 201 N. Railroad St., and many garden centers around Eagle River area.
